HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Endicott men's tennis team earned their first win of the spring season against Cornell College, 6-3, on Thursday afternoon in their third match of the PTR Spring Tennis Fest at the Long Cove Club. The Gulls swept all doubles matches before solidifying the victory in singles at flights No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6.
The doubles pairings of Thomas Brent (Gorham Maine) and Justin Toler (Concord, Mass.), and Daniel Rinkert (Ben Lomond, Calif.) and Christos Papadopoulos (Weymouth, Mass.) were both winners in today's match with respective scores of 8-2 and 8-1.
In singles play, McCleary, Ozan Cermik (Cumberland, R.I.) and Chris Leighton (North Reading, Mass.) each handed their opponents losses at the No. 4 (6-3, 6-1), No. 5 (6-4, 6-0) and No. 6 (6-2, 6-1) flights, respectively.
"Great to get our first win of the spring season," said Endicott men's tennis coach Jeremy Howard, "Terrific doubles to get us started and our depth really showed with the singles wins at flights 4, 5, and 6."
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- This is the first win for the doubles pairing of Kirkpatrick and McCleary
- McCleary, Cermik and Leighton all earned their first respective singles victories of the season with today's win
Endicott (3-4) will take on Indiana University East for their final match of the PTR Spring Tennis Fest on Friday, March 16 at 12:45 PM. Cornell College (1-6) will face West Liberty State on Friday at 7:30 AM in Hilton Head.
