NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Endicott men's tennis team defeated Coast Guard, 5-2, in non-conference action on Saturday evening at the Gregory Field House.
In doubles, the Gulls received wins at No. 2 (6-2) from Antonio Marsallo (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) / Drew Benporath (South Guilford, Western Australia) and No. 3 (6-4) via Spencer Smith (Albany, N.Y.) / Eric Scalici (Essex Fells, N.J.) to take the match's opening point.
Benporath (No. 2, 6-2, 6-2) and Smith (No. 6, 6-2, 6-1) followed with victories in singles, along with Ethan Hopman (Summit, N.J.) at No. 4 (7-5, 6-4) and Aaron Terpko (Shrewsbury, Mass.) at No. 5 (6-0, 6-1) for the Gulls' first win of the season.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Marsallo and Benporath paired up at doubles for the first time this year.
- Smith and Scalici are 2-3 overall in doubles play this season.
- Benporath is 1-0 at No. 2 singles during this year's campaign.
