Men’s Tennis Bests Roger Williams In Pivotal CNE Matchup, 4-3
BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott men's tennis team defeated Roger Williams, 4-3, in a pivotal Conference of New England (CNE) matchup on Thursday evening at The South Campus tennis courts.
The Gulls earned the first point of the match in doubles play.
Conrad Kadel (Heidelberg, Germany) / Aaron Terpko (Shrewsbury, Mass.) claimed a 6-2 win at No. 1, while Drew Benporath (South Guildford, Western Australia) / Antonio Marsallo (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) secured the 1-0 match advantage with a 6-4 victory at No. 2.
In singles, Spencer Smith (Albany, N.Y.) pushed Endicott out to a 2-0 lead with a swift 6-3, 6-4 triumph at No. 6.
Roger Williams responded back at No. 5 and No. 2 to even the score at 2-2 before Eric Scalici (Essex Fells, N.J.) turned in a hard-fought 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 victory at No. 3 to push the Gulls ahead, 3-2.
Following a loss at No. 4, Kadel clinched the match in a thrilling come-from-behind victory, 4-6, 6-0, 7-6 (7-5), upending the Hawks' perfect 9-0 start to league play.
