CNE SEMIFINALS: No. 3 Men's Tennis Drops Hard-Fought Match To No. 2 Nichols, 4-2
DUDLEY, Mass. — The third-seeded Endicott men's tennis team fell to second-seeded Nichols, 4-2, in the Conference of New England (CNE) Tournament Semifinals on Tuesday afternoon at the Robinson Tennis Courts.
The Gulls fell behind early in the match, 1-0, after dropping the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles flights.
However, the top doubles pairing of Drew Benporath (South Guildford, Western Australia) and Antonio Marsallo (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) fought hard and secured a 6-2 win at No. 2.
In singles, Spencer Smith (Albany, N.Y.) tied the match score at one with a straight set 6-1, 7-5 victory at No. 6. The host Bison then won matches at No. 3 and No. 4 to push their lead to 3-1.
Aaron Terpko (Shrewsbury, Mass.) pulled Endicott to within one with a 7-6, 7-6 win at No. 5. Nichols would then punch its ticket into the championship match with a three-set victory at No. 1.
