Gulls Open Season with 3-0 Win over Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, CT - The Endicott College men's volleyball team earned their first victory of the 2005 season, defeating Sacred Heart University in three games. The Gulls won by scores of 30-25, 34-32 and 30-27 to come away with the victory in the William H. Pitt Center. Today's win was the first for the Gulls over any non-division 3 team and their first over a Division 1 program.
Leading the way for Endicott was Eddie Marchand who finished with a double double, 16 kills and 11 digs. Eric Hunter also recorded a double double with 13 kills and a match high 36 digs. Jeremy Hamel passes out 36 assists in the win as the Gulls go to 1-0 to start the year.
For the Pioneers senior Michael Gardner (Brookfield, WI) came away with a game-high 15 kills and 11 digs. Robert Purslow (South Huntington, NY) finished with seven kills while Tommy Karavas (Astoria, NY) passed out 25 assists in the loss.
Endicott returns to action on Tuesday at 7:00 PM when they will kick off their 2005 NECVA New England season at Johnson & Wales. SHU will return to action next Saturday, January 22nd when they host St. Francis (PA) at 2:00 pm.
