Endicott Sweeps Regis; Gulls Improve to 9-0 in NECC

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's volleyball team took down NECC opponent Regis in straight sets (27-25, 25-10, 25-23) to complete their regular season sweep of the Pride as junior middle Daniel Toth (Vernon, N.J.) tied for the match-high with nine kills and registered five assisted blocks at the net. Endicott improved to 9-9 overall on the year and remained unbeaten in conference play at 8-0.

The Gulls have two matches on the schedule before going on an 11-day spring break hiatus starting with a home non-conference showdown with Vassar on Friday at 5:00 p.m. On Saturday, Endicott goes for 9-0 in their NECC schedule when they travel to Newbury for an 11:00 a.m. start.

Regis (3-13, 1-4 NECC) looks to end a two-game skid on Thursday at conference rival Lesley before playing in a Saturday tri-match against Johnson & Wales (R.I.) and Sage.

Gulls junior setter Cameron Little (San Diego, Calif.) totaled 34 assists, finding both Toth and junior outside John Osborne (Freehold, N.J.) for a match-high nine kills as well as junior Milford outsides Dan Seaver (Milford, Mass.) and Alex Wasik (Milford, Mass.) for eight and six kills, respectively. Wasik and Osborne also clamped down on three block assists apiece with Seaver and Little each contributing with one block.

Gulls sophomore middle Ryan Sutherland (Fairport, N.Y.) also did his part in holding Regis to just a .033 team hitting percentage with one solo block and three assisted blocks. Offensively, Sutherland added six kills.

Osborne was Endicott's dig-leader with nine with senior libero Kristian Catalan (Sudbury, Mass.) and Little totaling seven digs apiece. Regis sophomore libero Sean Bisnett (Oxnard, Calif.) led all players with 10 digs in the loss.

The Pride were fueled offensively by freshman outside Ryan Conte (Oxnard, Calif.) and freshman middle Brett Krahl (Santa Clarita, Calif.) who finished with seven and five kills, respectively. Krahl also factored in defensively with four block assists. Regis freshman setter Ryan Husher (Camarillo, Calif.) stuffed the stat sheet in the loss with 20 assists, eight digs, three block assists, and two kills.

Aside from Endicott's dominating second set performance that saw them hit .357 as a team with three blocks, the Gulls needed to erase late-set deficits in the first and third to come out on top. In the first set, back-to-back points for Regis on a Gulls service error and ball handling error put the Pride ahead 25-24. Kills by Seaver and Wasik put Endicott back on top 26-25, setting up the set-ending block by Wasik and Sutherland. In the third set and trailing 23-21, Endicott rattled off four straight points courtesy of kills by Wasik and Osborne, a Pride attack error, and another set-ending block from Sutherland and Osborne to clinch the win.
