Men’s Volleyball Takes Down Baruch & Hunter; Coach Chapell ’08 Earns 100th Career Victory

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Endicott men's volleyball team picked up wins against Baruch (3-0) and Hunter (3-0) on Friday night in non-conference action on the campus of Johnson & Wales University. The Gulls defeated Baruch by scores of 25-23, 25-17, and 25-14, and topped Hunter by scores of 26-24, 25-22, 25-23 in the nightcap.

Endicott head coach George Chapell '08 (Haverhill, Mass.) also earned his 100th career victory in the win over Baruch. Chapell is now 101-57 (.639) in his career (six seasons) and is the second coach in program history to reach the 100-career win plateau. As a program, Endicott has compiled a record of 321-236 (.576) in 19 seasons and won five New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) championships. All five NECC titles have come under Coach Chapell's guidance.

ENDICOTT 3, BARUCH 0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-14)

Endicott controlled the majority of play in match one of the night as the contest only featured three ties and one lead change.

Bryn Lipton (Rockford, Ill.) paced all student-athletes with 15 kills on 23 swings (.565), while Donovan Dey (Fairport, N.Y.) contributed 10 putaways on 20 attempts (.450).

Meanwhile, Jeremy Doski (Sandy Hook, Conn.) and Troy Riorden (Fairport, N.Y.) both contributed seven kills apiece.

Adam Dake (Victor, N.Y.) and Chad Riorden (Fairport, N.Y.) combined for 37 assists with a match-high coming from Dake, and Ryan Healy (Fair Lawn, N.J.) tied for the match-high in digs with eight to round out the list of highlights.

ENDICOTT 3, HUNTER 0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-23)

Match two of the night was much different from a pace of play standpoint as the Gulls and the Hawks played through 28 ties and six lead changes despite the 3-0 sweep by Endicott.

Lipton guided the Gulls offensively once again, this time with 16 kills to go along with six digs, two block solos and four block assists. Dey and T. Riorden also combined for 14 kills – seven each – while Doski posted six kills of his own. T. Riorden also led Endicott defensively with a match-high 12 digs.

Meanwhile, Devin Racey (Voorheesville, N.Y.) and C. Riorden facilitated the offense equally with 17 assists each.


Endicott (5-0) takes on Mt. St. Vincent tomorrow at 9:30 AM.
