Men’s Volleyball Rallies Past Trine, 3-2
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Endicott men's volleyball team defeated Trine, 3-2, by scores of 20-25, 28-26, 17-25, 25-18, and 16-14 on Friday night at Kidera Gymnasium, on the campus of Nazareth University.
Aidan Iacovelli (South Windsor, Conn.) posted his first double-double of the season via 18 kills (team-high four in set 5, .224, 49 attempts) and 11 digs, highlighting Endicott's efforts.
Jake Laborde (Brookline, N.H.) also contributed 12 kills, including the match-winning putaway, to secure the victory after the Gulls trailed 13-12 and 14-13 in the fifth set.
Meanwhile, Jackson Gray (Glenmont, N.Y.) produced an all-around effort with seven kills, eight blocks (one solo), and four digs.
Matty Tiernan (Bradford, R.I.) ran the offense behind a 33-assist effort, his second 30-plus assist performance of the season.
Aaron Bennett (Haverhill, Mass.) also chipped in with six kills (.417), while Thomas Matchett (North Smithfield, R.I.) and Ethan Norris (Hollis, N.H.) combined for eight kills (6/2) and 10 block assists (5 each).
Defensively, Dan Battista (Bethlehem, N.Y.) notched a team-high 15 digs and went 30-for-31 on serve-receive (.968).
Tonight's match featured 26 ties (6-8-2-7-3) and 13 lead changes (2-5-2-2-2).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott is receiving votes (6) in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Poll.
- First-ever meeting between the programs.
- Laborde was 18-for-18 on serve-receive.
- Iacovelli has registered 10 or more kills in five matches this season.
- Additionally, six of Iacovelli's 11 digs on the night led directly to kills (.545).
