Dartmouth, Mass. – The Endicott men’s and women’s cross country squads raced among nearly 300 other competitors at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational this past Saturday and with several strong finishes, the Gulls gave a strong showing against some of the toughest NCAA Division III running programs in the region.

Dartmouth, Mass. – The Endicott men’s and women’s cross country squads raced among nearly 300 other competitors at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational this past Saturday and with several strong finishes, the Gulls gave a strong showing against some of the toughest NCAA Division III running programs in the region.
In the women’s 5K varsity race, the freshman duo of \#Jillian Mendes\# (Waterbury Center, Vt.) and \#Kira DiCaprio\# (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) clocked in under 20 minutes for the first time in their collegiate racing careers. Mendes, who finished in 59th place overall, was the first Gulls runner to cross the finish line at 19:53 while DiCaprio followed six seconds later in 66th place.
Rounding out the top five for the women were \#Holly Davis\# (20:43, 124th, Guilford, Conn.), \#Kim Shepherd\# (21:17, 166th, Essex, Conn.), and \#Brittaney Plante\# (21:44, 192nd, Nashua, N.H.). The Blue and Green as a team finished in 22nd place in the 290 runner race.
In the men’s varsity race, a short-staffed Gulls team ran hard amongst 272 runners with junior \#Greg Payne\# (North Attleboro, Mass.) leading the way with a time of 26:19.40, shaving 40 seconds off his previous time at this course, for the 8K race. He finished in 68th place overall.
\#Tom Rofrano\# (33:44.11, 249th, Sayville, N.Y.), \#Alan Daniels\# (34:54.27, 258th, Mexico City, Mexico) and \#Alex Dinola\# (35:17.58, 260th, Westford, Mass.) all ran hard. Daniels had his best finish this season.
The Gulls will be off until October 2 when they go to the Gordon Invitational in Wenham. The men will race at 10:00 am while the women start at 10:45 am.
