2009 Sailing Team Hoping to Crack Top 20
August 19, 2009
The 2008-2009 edition of the Club Sailing Team show-cased the continual growth and improvement expected, finishing higher than the previous three years of rankings in the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association. New floating docks off of Tupper Beach on the Endicott campus contributed to their successes, as practice times increased by at least an hour and a half. Prior to last season, commuting off campus, rigging, and de-rigging took time away from what matters most, which is time on the water. The investment paid off as the team competed in over 15 regattas, traveling as far north as Dartmouth NH, to Newport, Rhode Island, and of course against many colleges and universities in the Boston area which is full of the top ranked sailing teams in the country.
With captain’s Kate Bispham (’10), Elizabeth Buchanan (’11) and Brian Laurita (’11) returning to a new fleet of six 420’s, three Rhodes 19’s, and a talented mix of underclassmen and women, the Sailing team will look to add to its achievements. Coach Doug Walker believes a top 25 ranking is within reach, “With this group of returning veterans and the addition of some great freshman, that goal is well within our grasp”.
