Gulls Wrap Up Spring Break
March 22, 2007
Kissimmee, FL - Robyn Savitske (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley) picked up a one inning save and a nine inning win as she led the Gulls to wins over Buena Vista University and Wellesley College on the final day of the 2007 Rebel Games in Kissimmee, Florida.
Endicott started the day off with a 4-2 win over Buena Vista that saw transfer Jen Elwell (Tyngsboro, MA/Shawsheen Tech.) scatter five hits over six innings, striking out five while walking two and allowing just one earned run. Savitske would then come in to close out the seventh to earn the save.
EC scored three runs in the first two innings and added a fourth run in the fifth taking advantage of five Beaver errors to secure the win. Buena Vista picked up a run in the fifth and sixth innings cutting the Endicott lead to two run but Elwell and Savitske proved to be too much for the Beavers as they could only muster five hits against the power pitching duo.
The Gulls ended their trip to Florida in dramatic fashion with a walk off 4-3 win in extra innings over Wellesley College. Savitske picked up the win going all nine innings surrendering two earned runs on nine hits while striking out 11.
Wellesley took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning but Endicott would rally with three runs on two hits and three Blue errors to tie the game. Danielle Sargent (Sabattus, ME/Oak Hill) got things started for EC, drawing a lead off walk then coming around to score after Jenna Lazar (Milton, MA/Milton) and Sarah Spaziano (Norton, MA/Norton) reached on errors. Rachel Pearson (Gales Ferry, CT/Ledyard) tied the game at three with a one out, two RBI double that brought in Sargent and Spaziano.
The game could not be decided in the standard seven innings. Endicott took advantage of the fact that extra innings places a runner in scoring position to start each inning in the ninth when Jenna Lazar hit a two out single that scored Jackie Collier (Swampscott, MA/Bishop Fenwick) for the game winning run.
Endicott wraps up its spring break trip with a 7-3 record and will put its six game win streak to the test with a double-header against Roger Williams on Tuesday March 27 in Bristol, RI. The Gulls take on Regis College on March 31 before playing their home opener on April 1 against the University of New England at their state-of-the-art stadium in Beverly, MA.
