INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- The NCAA has released the 2014 NCAA Division III Softball Tournament field and Endicott will be traveling to Williams on Friday, May 9th as they look to continue their post season run in the Regional Round of 62. The Gulls, who received an automatic bid with their CCC Championship win, will be at NESCAC runner-up Williams (24-11) from May 9th through May 11th along with the Lynx of Lesley University (21-13) and the defending national champion Jumbos of Tufts (37-3).
The Gulls advanced to the NCAA tournament by claiming their 10th CCC title in program history and first since 2011. Endicott swept through the double elimination tournament by knocking off Western New England (WNE) 7-0 on Tuesday in the first game and Salve Regina 3-1 in the second game Friday night before posting a 7-6 victory over WNE in a dramatic 12 inning championship game. The Gulls are looking to add to the program's 10 NCAA Tournament wins, three of which came in their 2008 season that ended in the Regional Finals.
Tufts defeated Williams 4-1 in the NESCAC semis and then 10-2 in the championship to claim the conference's automatic bid while Williams received an at-large berth. Williams has had success against Tufts this season however as the Ephs a doubleheader sweep of the Jumbos 8-7 and 6-4 on April 5th, two of just three losses on the season for Tufts.
Lesley received the NECC's automatic bid after a regular season in which they posted a 17-1 record in NECC play before sweeping through the conference tournament, eventually knocking off Mitchell College 4-2 to claim the title.
Out of the three other teams in the group, Endicott faced only Tufts in 2014, just two weeks ago when the Jumbos were ranked #4 nationally. In the doubleheader, the Jumbos eked out two wins by scores of 1-0 and 3-0.
The double-elimination Regional Tournament begins May 9th with the Super-Regionals the following weekend on May 16th and 17th. The finals will be hosted at the University of Texas at Tyler from May 22nd through the 27th.
