Softball Falls to Wisconsin-Platteville and Cortland On Final Day in Florida

KISSIMMEE, Fla — The Endicott softball team fell to Wisconsin-Platteville, 7-4, and Cortland, 5-1, on Friday afternoon in their final doubleheader of the Spring Games Tournament.
GAME ONE: WISCONSIN-PLATTEVILLE 7, ENDICOTT 4
WP (2-0): Payton Gile (Dickeyville, Wis.) — 4.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
LP (0-1): Rania Barton (Manchester, N.H.) — 4.1 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
Trailing by six heading into the seventh, the Gulls scored three runs to cut the deficit, but were unable to complete the comeback.
Vania Moniz (Salem, N.H.) started the rally after being hit by a pitch, and Catherine Seay (Marlborough, Mass.) followed with a single through the left side. Then, Mia Mitchell (Medford, Mass.) lined a hit down the right field line to load the bases before a fielding error allowed Moniz to score the first run of the inning.
Elyse Saccoccio (Coventry, R.I.) lifted a sacrifice fly to center to bring home Seay, and Ella Tower (Windham, N.H.) followed with an RBI single through the left side to score Mitchell.
Unfortunately, the rally ended there, and the Gulls fell by a 7-4 final score.
Maddie Beeley (Salem, N.H.), Tower, and Seay led the offense with two hits each.
GAME TWO: CORTLAND 5, ENDICOTT 1
WP (1-3): Gianna Endieveri (Glen Falls, N.Y.) — 5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
LP (3-2): Analise Grady (Reading, Mass.) — 2.2 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
Cortland built an early lead and never looked back, scoring three runs on three hits in the second inning before tacking on some insurance runs in the fourth and sixth to make it 5-0.
The Gulls got one back in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single through the left side by Mitchell, scoring Moniz.
Mitchell and Jeanise Serrano (Shelton, Conn.) highlighted the offense with multi-hit performances in the loss.
BEYOND THE BOX
- Endicott leads the all-time series 2-1 over Wisconsin-Platteville.
- First career two-hit game for Serrano.
- The Gulls closed out their Spring Games run with a record of 5-5 on the trip.
- Second time in Barton's career she has pitched 4+ innings in an outing (5/17/23).
