Game 1
Suffolk
BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott softball team split its doubleheader against Suffolk University, 7-3 & 3-4, on Sunday evening in Conference of New England (CNE) action at the Softball Complex.
Before first pitch, Rania Barton (Manchester, N.H.), Analise Grady (Reading, Mass.), Emma Sheehan (Plainville, Mass.), and Ella Tower (Windham, N.H.) were all honored for their contributions to the Endicott College community and the softball program in a pre-game Senior Day ceremony.
GAME ONE: Endicott 7, Suffolk 3
WP (8-4): Grady – 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K
LP (9-9): Cynthia Rucinski (Milltown, N.J.) – 6 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 5 BB, 3 K
The Gulls struck for four runs in the first inning and never relinquished the lead the rest of the way.
Kylyn McLaren (Rochester, N.H.) began the scoring with an RBI double to right center before Elyse Saccoccio (Coventry, R.I.) put her stamp on the matchup with a three-run blast to left center field.
In the second, Maddie Beeley (Salem, N.H.) added to the differential, ripping an RBI single up the middle to make it 5-0. Beeley (2-for-3, 2 R, 1 RBI) also scored on Saccoccio's homer in the first, working an eight-pitch walk to get on base.
Suffolk answered with a three-run homer in the third, but Sheehan erased further damage with a lineout to left field and a groundout to third base to keep the contest at 5-3.
Grady took over in the fourth and carved through the Rams' lineup to secure her 20th career win.
Tower also added a two-run single in the sixth for good measure.
The senior outfielder finished the game going 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Saccoccio was 2-for-3 with one run scored and three RBI.
GAME TWO: Suffolk 4, Endicott 3
WP (9-7): Lily Newhall (Lynn, Mass.) – 7 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
LP (0-2): Barton – 1 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
Suffolk put up a four-spot in the first inning, and that crooked number held true despite a comeback effort from the Gulls.
In the third inning, Endicott's offense started to find its rhythm as Ava Kelley (Norfolk, Mass.) and Abby McClaflin (Easthampton, Mass.) both notched RBI singles to cut the deficit in half, 4-2.
The Gulls also tacked one more run in the fifth thanks to a Rams' miscue, but were unable to put another runner in scoring position for the remainder of the matchup.
