Endicott Dominates Suffolk, 79-54
Nov. 27, 2007
BEVERLY, MA - Endicott College built a 38-23 halftime lead and never looked back, as the Gulls defeated Suffolk University, 79-54, on Tuesday evening in Beverly, Massachusetts.
A defensive battle in the early stages of the contest was eventually blown open as the Gulls closed out the first half by going on a 14-4 run in a span of 5:38. Endicott's Nicole Duchesne (Plaistow, NH/Central Catholic) was instrumental in the charge as the junior guard connected on back-to-back three pointers for the Blue and Green.
The Rams and the Gulls traded buckets in the opening moments of the second half as Endicott's Duchesne nailed yet another three-ball, only to be answered by a nice up and under lay-in from Suffolk's Katie Castignetti (Braintree, MA/Braintree).
However an uncontested lay-up by Duchesne, followed by her fourth three-pointer of the evening gave the Gulls a comfortable 21 point cushion that they refused to relinquish. From that point, Endicott was able to coast to the 79-54 victory.
Duchesne led all scorers as she dropped a game-high 18 points including 4-of-7 from behind the arc. Ceciley Chisholm (Lexington, MA/Lexington) chipped in with 12 points and six assists while Paris Sanders (Needham, MA/Minuteman Tech) had 11 points and seven rebounds for the Gulls.
Suffolk was paced by Katie Castignetti's 11 points. Meghan Tracey (Rehoboth, MA/Saint Raphael Academy) added seven points and a game-high 11 rebounds (seven offensive) for the Rams. Laura Thompson (Kennebunk, ME/Kennebunk) scored nine in the loss.
With the win, Endicott improves to 2-1 overall (0-0 TCCC). The Gulls retake the court this coming weekend as the Blue and Green will square-off in the Williams' Holiday Tournament on Saturday and Sunday. The Gulls open the two-day event with a match-up vs. UMaine-Farmington at 6:00 pm on December 1st.
