Duchesne powers Gulls to fourth straight win

BOSTON, Mass. - Senior guard Nicole Duchesne (Plaistow, N.H.) scored 25 points, grabbed nine rebounds, had five assists, and six steals as the Endicott women's basketball team won its fourth straight contest, an 81-49 triumph over Wentworth in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference contest played at Tansey Gymnasium. The Gulls improve to 13-4 (4-1 TCCC) this season and the Leopards dropped its fourth straight game leaving them at 4-13 (2-3 TCCC).
The Gulls took a 4-2 lead on a basket from sophomore forward Ashley Vitale (Wilmington, Mass.) with 17:18 remaining in the first half and never looked back, leading by as much as 21 with 23 seconds left in the half and would lead by 19 (43-24) at the break. Endicott shot 15-for-32 (46.9 percent) from the floor, while holding the Leopards to 9-for-27 (33.3 percent). The Gulls also forced 13 first-half turnovers.
Despite Wentworth trimming the lead to 16 early in the second half, Endicott used a 17-4 run to lead by 29 with 11:45 left in the contest. The second half saw Endicott hold Wentworth to 32.3 percent shooting from the floor.
Vitale, senior forward Nicole Young (Rockland, Mass.), and junior guard Kaylin Burke (Leominster, Mass.) each scored nine for Endicott, which hit its first 20 free throws before finishing the game 20-for-22 from the free throw line. The Gulls converted 24 Leopard turnovers into 30 points.
Wentworth was paced by junior forward Meaghan Gardner (Shrewsbury, Mass.), who scored 16 points. Senior guard Margo Ward (Mystic, Conn.) scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Leopards.
The Gulls return to the court when they travel to Bristol, R.I. for a TCCC contest against Roger Williams at 6:00 p.m. The Leopards will host Salve Regina on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
