BEVERLY, Mass. - Regis College was defeated at the hands of the Endicott College Gulls on Saturday afternoon in Beverly, Massachusetts by a final score of 78-72. Sophomore guard Ashley Wright (Merrimack, N.H.) led all scorers with 24 points, including a 5-for-8 shooting performance from behind the three-point arc. With the victory, Endicott improves their conference record to 8-1 and 17-4 overall, while Regis fell to 15-6 and 5-4 in the TCCC.
The Pride opened the game with impressive shooting from the floor, posting a double-digit lead at the 10 minute mark of the first half. Kim Mariotti (Springfield, Mass.) and Jessica Page (Quincy, Mass.) each chipped in 10 points in the first half for the Pride.
A strong defensive effort led by junior forward Ceciley Chisholm (Lexington, Mass.), paired with a 13-for-16 shooting for the Gulls to close out the first half erased Regis' lead, knotting the score at 38 apiece going into the intermission.
Both teams shot better than 50% from the field in the first half, and better than 40% from the three point area.
Endicott began the second half with a 12-3 run, taking a nine point lead just three minutes into the final frame. Despite Regis' efforts to climb back into the game, the Gulls had their largest lead of the evening at 66-56 with just over nine minutes remaining.
However, Regis would not go quietly as guards Stephanie Crawford (Rockland, Mass.) and Jessica Page turned up the heat in the final minutes of the contest, teaming up for five rebounds and seven points in the final three minutes, to bring the Pride within two points of the Gulls at 74-72.
In the end, Endicott's 4-6 freethrow shooting in the final minute sealed the win for the Gulls, who sit in third place in the conference after Saturday's matchup.
Regis College controlled the second chance points and points in the paint in Saturdays contest, but their 13 turnovers were costly, as Endicott held a six point spread in points off turnovers.
Three other Gulls would finish in double-figures as Nicole Duchesne (Plaistow, N.H.), Kaylin Burke (Leominster, Mass.), and Ceciley Chisholm each finished with 10. 14, and 13 points, respectively. Chisholm also led the Gulls on the boards with nine while Kaylin Burke added seven rebounds and six assists.
