Gulls earn No. 3 seed in upcoming ECAC Tournament

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott College women's basketball team has been invited to the ECAC New England Region basketball tournament that will be held from March 4th to March 8th. The Gulls have been named the No. 3 seed in the tournament and will host Emerson College on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. at MacDonald Gymnasium in Beverly, Mass.
Both teams wrapped up their regular seasons as the No. 2 seeds heading into their Conference Championships. Endicott was defeated in the TCCC Finals by Salve Regina, 72-67, on Saturday afternoon which earned the Seahawks the Automatic Qualifier into the NCAA Tournament. The Gulls (23-5) have already established a program record for wins in a season entering Wednesday's matchup. Emerson College (20-8) was also defeated in its conference finals as the Lions lost to Emmanuel College, 51-40, in the GNAC Championships.
Endicott was able to defeat the Lions in their previous non-conference matchup earlier this season as the Gulls traveled to Boston, Mass. and defeated Emerson, 77-52, on December 9th. Sophomore Ashley Vitale (Wilmingtron, Mass.) led the gulls with 22 points while teammates Nicole Duchesne (Plaistow, N.H.) and Nicole Young (Rockland, Mass.) chipped in with 15 and 12 points, respectively. Maude Okrah (Rutland, Mass.) led Emerson with 20 points, with Lauren Zaniboni (San Diego, Calif.) chipping in 12 points and nine boards. Kathy Andrade (Hull, Mass.) and Andrea Kosek (Latham, N.Y.) each had 10 in the losing cause.
Other first-round matchups include No. 1 seed Nichols College (23-4) hosting No. 8 Plymouth State (16-10) at 5 p.m. at Nichols College. No. 2 Worcester Polytechnic Institute (21-6) hosts No. 7 Colby-Sawyer (16-9) at 7:00 p.m., and Keene State College (20-7) will take on the University of New England (20-7) at 7 p.m. in the No. 4/No. 5 match-up at Keene State.
The first-round winners will advance to the semifinals on Saturday, March 7th hosted by the highest remaining seeds. The winner of Nichols/Plymouth State will face the winner of Keene State/University of New England at a time to be determined in one semifinal, and the winner of WPI/Colby-Sawyer will play the winner of Endicott/Emerson also at a time to be determined in the other semifinal. The semifinal winners will meet Sunday, March 8 for the championship.
