Women's Basketball Falls To No. 12 Bates, 56-44
LEWISTON, Maine — The Endicott women's basketball team fell to No. 12 nationally ranked Bates by a 56-44 score in Saturday afternoon's non-conference clash at Alumni Gymnasium.
Emma Shinney (Wakefield, Mass.) and Tenley Wallin (Danbury, Conn.) each led the Gulls with team highs of nine points in the contest.
Tricia Wladkowski (Norwood, Mass.) made her second straight start and turned in eight points (3-7 FG, 1-3 3PT) and eight boards in 27 minutes from the floor.
After a back-and-forth first quarter, the hosts eventually grabbed a 16-13 lead heading to the second.
The second quarter was a defensive battle. Neither side shot above 23%, and the contest headed to halftime with a score of 26-21 in favor of the Bobcats.
Early in the third, back-to-back buckets from Sofia Mazzotta (Billerica, Mass.) and Wallin kept the Blue and Green well within striking distance (30-26).
However, the Bobcats strung together a 10-2 run, and the rest of the way Endicott was unable to close the gap.
Bates secured its home win with a score of 56-44 to remain undefeated on the season.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Avery Brown (Canton, Conn.) chipped in a season-high five points from off the bench.
- Wladkowski's eight rebounds tied her career high.
- The Gulls held the Bobcats to 39.3% shooting from the floor in the loss.
- Endicott led by seven in the opening minutes of the contest.
