Women's Basketball Suffers 70-54 Setback To MIT
BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team dropped Monday evening's non-conference matchup with the MIT Engineers, 70-54, from inside MacDonald Gymnasium.
Emma Shinney (Wakefield, Mass.) logged her second consecutive double-double with a 16-point (7-15 FG), 18-rebound performance. She also dished out four dimes and picked up two thefts.
Tenley Wallin (Danbury, Conn.) filled up 14 points (6-11 FG, 1-2 3PT) and snatched five boards, while Mia McGarrity (Ridgefield, Conn.) made good on her third start of the season with 10 points (4-5 FG, 2-2 FT) and four rebounds.
After a back-and-forth, high-scoring first quarter, the Engineers headed to the second quarter with a slim 21-19 lead.
Sofia Mazzotta (Billerica, Mass.) quickly evened the score at 21 with a drive to the rim out of the break, but a 10-0 run after that put the Engineers comfortably in front.
The Blue and Green were able to cut the deficit down to seven (37-30) heading into halftime, but a powerful second half performance by the Engineers (outscored Endicott 33-24; never trailed in the half) sealed the 70-54 final.
