Women's Basketball Handles Suffolk, 65-56
EAST BOSTON, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team pulled out a 65-56 road win in Tuesday evening's Conference of New England (CNE) matchup from inside Smith Court.
Emma Shinney (Wakefield, Mass.), Tricia Wladkowski (Norwood, Mass.), and Aleah Bracey (New Bedford, Mass.) led the Gulls with 15 points apiece.
Shinney filled out the stat sheet with a six-assist, four-rebound, three-steal, and two-block effort, while Wladkowski snagged seven rebounds, dished out two assists and picked up one steal.
Tenley Wallin (Danbury, Conn.) and Sofia Mazzotta (Billerica, Mass.) each supplied eight points to round out the Gulls' individual performances.
After a back-and-forth first quarter, the Rams broke loose for a 14-4 run to pull ahead 23-17 heading into the second.
Some sharpshooting from Bracey in the second (two threes made) brought the Gulls back to within a couple, and eventually, the Blue and Green took hold of a brief lead thanks to a 7-0 run. Mazzotta capped off the spurt with a layup.
Then, after the Rams reclaimed a two-point lead, Wladkowski layed one up and in to even the score at 35 heading into halftime.
Out of the break, Wladkowski splashed a triple and then converted another layup to put the Gulls in front, 40-35, their largest lead of the game to that point.
The Rams grabbed another lead via an 8-2 spurt, but back-to-back Bracey triples evened the score once more (48-48). Then, Endicott pulled ahead thanks again to Wladkowski and Bracey's scoring efforts. They took a 54-50 lead heading into the final quarter.
In a much slower paced fourth, back-to-back buckets from Wallin put the Gulls up eight with 6:30 remaining. The Rams were never really able to recover from that point on.
Some more work down low from Shinney, and eventually some steady free throw shooting sent the Gulls past the Rams, 65-56.
