SALEM, Mass. – The Endicott women's club ice hockey team hosted UMass Lowell on Saturday for the second contest of the season. Senior Jesse Bilafer (Concord, Mass.) tallied three goals in the game while senior Addie Weeks (Harwichport, Mass.) recorded two goals and an assist in the 6-3 victory. The Gulls are now 2-0 on the season.
Following Bilafer and Weeks in scoring was junior Sam Parr (Dedham, Mass.) as she recorded one goal and two assists. Coach Munzing was very impressed with the play of rookies Martha Crowley (Castleton, N.Y.), Megan Theodore (Dartmouth, Mass.) and Morgan Manning (Andover, Mass.) all of which are "playing like a seasoned veteran" said Coach Munzing. The freshman trio each earned an assist in the victory.
The Gulls were strong between the pipes as all three goalkeepers saw action and came up with big saves. Freshman Alyssa Marro (Wantaugh, N.Y.) started the first period for the Blue and Green and recorded eight saves. Freshman MacKenzie Dutton (Andover, Mass.) took over in the second and stopped seven shots. Wrapping the game up was junior goaltender Taylor Witham (Cumberland, Maine) who made numerous big stops as she shutout the River Hawks in the third period.
Controlling the play at the blue line was junior Lexi Bird (Lebanon, N.H.), sophomore Meagan Hyland (Duxbury, Mass.) Crowley, and Theodore who were constantly shutting down the River Hawks, in particular the quick sister tandem of Liz and Laura Kender.
The biggest play of the day for the Gulls game from Weeks as she picked up the puck just behind the defensive blue line and skated around the UML defense to go one on one with the goaltender, Weeks used her strong stick skills to get the puck to the back of the net off a backhanded deke.
Endicott will look ahead to November 2nd when they face Salem State at 2:00 p.m.
