Gulls Split in Weekend Doubleheader
BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women’s ice hockey team played two strong contests over the weekend as they squared off with North Shore rival, Salem State on Saturday and hosted Colby-Sawyer on Sunday. After a late goal by the Vikings the Gulls dropped just their second game in a tough 2-1 battle. The following day with a season high, three goals, from freshman Maggie Layo (Sandwich, Mass.) Endicott soared to an 7-1 victory. Endicott improves to 5-2 overall on the season as they look ahead to next weekend on December 13th and 14th where they host Saint Anselm and Boston College at 2:00 p.m. at the Talbot Rink in Gloucester, Mass.

On Saturday the Blue and Green traveled to Salem State who currently leads the IWCHL with a 4-0 record. The Vikings tallied an early goal in the first period to take the lead. With seven minutes to go in the third period freshman Gabby Boualavanh (Cape Ceddick, Maine) made a play with goal with senior Mackenzie Hurst (Gilford, N.H.) and Layo to score the game tying goal. With the game at a stalemate the Vikings tallied the game winner with 1:30 remaining in the third period to secure the 2-1 victory.
On Sunday afternoon the Gulls hosted Colby-Sawyer and defeated them for the second time this season with an 7-1 final. The first period was controlled by the Blue and Green as freshmen Caroline Robarge (Wilmington, Mass.) and Layo tallied back to back goals to take a 2-0 lead entering the first intermission.
In the second period the Gulls put up two more goals by Robarge and Layo with help from a solid freshmen group of Sam Crowley (Leicester, Mass.), Alicia Steeves (Chelmsford, Mass.), Lauren Yakush (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) and Alyson Alissi (West Hartford, Conn.). Entering the second intermission Endicott held a 4-0 lead.
In the final period, Layo, Steeves, and Alissi would each tally a goal to secure the 8-1 victory. In the final minutes the Chargers finally got on the board as junior Abigail Woods (Barnstable, Mass.) found the back of the net.
Endicott has just two more games in December and play one game in January before finishing up the 2014-15 season with three games in February.
