BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's ice hockey team topped Suffolk, 6-2, in Friday evening's home and Conference of New England (CNE) opener at Raymond J. Bourque Arena.
Cammi Ahern (Oswego, N.Y.) put the Gulls on top early with her first tally of the season, as she deked Suffolk's goaltender and backhanded the puck into the net (15:53).
The Gulls got some insurance just two minutes into the second period, as reigning CNE Co-Player of the Year Teaghan Hall (West Springfield, Mass.) potted her first of the season with a sleek wrist shot from the left point.
Suffolk notched its first goal of the contest at the 3:44 mark of the second stanza, but Jess Burwell (Hookset, N.H.) quickly responded with the Gulls on the power play just moments later, as she drilled a slap shot from the point that snuck through a crowd and put the Gulls in front, 3-1.
The Rams got one back before the end of the second period, cutting the Gulls lead to 3-2 heading into the final period.
However, the Blue and Green pulled away in the third period with goals from Lily Anderson (St. Paul, Minn.) (6:40), Rivers Morris (Braintree, Mass.) (9:05), and Hall's second (17:34, PP) to take control of the matchup.
Casey Moritz (Trophy Club, Texas) turned away 34 shots between the pipes in her second win of the young season (2-0-0).
