Gulls named top-seed, host Seahawks Saturday

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Endicott College women’s lacrosse team begins the pursuit of its fifth straight The Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship on Saturday, May 1st as the No. 1 overall seed, it was announced by TCCC Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye on Wednesday night. The Blue and Green (13-4 overall) posted an unblemished 11-0 record in TCCC play this year to earn the top seed.
Endicott will open the tournament with a quarterfinal matchup against No. 8 seed Salve Regina (7-10 overall, 4-6 TCCC). The Gulls handed the Seahawks a 21-9 setback on April 21st in the two teams’ only meeting this season.
Three other quarterfinal games are also slated for Saturday, May 1, including \#2 seed Roger Williams (12-4, 9-2) hosting \#7 seed Colby-Sawyer (6-10, 5-6) in Bristol, R.I., \#3 seed University of New England (11-4, 9-2) hosting \#6 seed Gordon (5-8, 5-6) in Biddeford, Maine, and \#4 seed Western New England (10-7, 8-3) hosting \#5 seed Curry (12-5, 8-3) in Springfield, Mass.
TCCC tiebreaking procedures were also used to determine the \#2, \#4, \#6 and \#8 seeds. In head-to-head play, Roger Williams captured the \#2 seed over University of New England following an 11-5 win in the teams’ April 17 game, Western New England won the \#4 seed over Curry after a 15-10 victory on March 24, Gordon earned the \#6 seed over Colby-Sawyer due to a 9-7 win on March 30, and Salve Regina locked up the \#8 seed by virtue of a 17-9 triumph over New England College on April 24.
Quarterfinal winners will advance to the semifinal round on Wednesday, May 5.
Tournament action culminates with the championship game on Saturday, May 8. The TCCC tournament champion will earn an automatic berth in the upcoming 2010 NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Championship.
