WELLESLEY, Mass. – Endicott opened up the 2013 women's lacrosse season with a convincing 16-3 victory over Wellesley College in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon.
Holly Davis (Guilford, Conn.) scored six times, three in each half, and the Gulls outshot the Blue 35-9. Davis also led the team in ground balls, with five and draw controls, with four.
Endicott (1-0) scored the first six goals of the game, including a natural hat trick by Davis, who scored three times in four minutes of play to double their advantage after Caitlin Pratt (Bow, N.H.), Rachel Campos (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Kelly Tierney (South Hadley, Mass.) had given the visitors a 3-0 lead.
Campos would go on to score three goals herself and pick up three ground balls, while Tierney scored twice and had two draw controls and two caused turnovers.
Senior Meagan Fuchs (Portland, Ore.) pulled a goal back for the hosts, but Endicott junior Callie Murphy (Woburn, Mass.) ended the first half with the first of her two goals on the day and the Gulls went into the break with a 7-1 advantage.
Fuchs opened the second half with her second goal of the game but again Endicott rattled off six straight goals to extend their lead from five to eleven, at 13-2.
Freshman Isabelle Sipperly (Greenwich, N.Y.) was in on the scoring run, and tallied a goal and two assists for her first career points as a Gull.
Lauren Todd (Newfields, N.H.) also found the net to go with three draw controls and a caused turnover.
Wellesley senior Allison Robbins (North Bennington, Vt.) added the final tally for the hosts before Tierney and Davis combined for the final three goals of the game.
Junior Rachel Socolow (Westford, Mass.) made six stops between the pipes for the Gulls. Junior goalie Tori Hysko (Reisterstown, Md.) made 26 saves, playing the first 50 minutes of the game for Wellesley.
This marked the fifth consecutive season that Endicott has defeated Wellesley, with the Gulls moving to 5-1 all-time against the Blue.
Endicott plays their home opener this Saturday afternoon at Endicott Stadium. The Gulls will take on Southern Maine at 1:00 pm.
