Jess Glenn Scores Four Goals In Gulls' Season-Opening Loss At MIT, 19-10

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. ­– The Endicott women's lacrosse team opened the 2016 season with a 19-10 loss at MIT, the reigning New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Champion, Wednesday night at Jack Barry Field as sophomore attack Jess Glenn (Underhill, Vt.) potted a team-high four goals in the defeat.

The Gulls jumped out to a fast 3-0 lead and were up 8-5 at halftime, thanks in part to a first half hat trick from Glenn, but the Engineers surged in the second half to outscore the Gulls, 14-2, including nine in a row, in the final 30 minutes to put away the visitors as Endicott managed just four shots in the second stanza.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

• Glenn's four goals are a career-high, in her first game in a Gulls' uniform.
• Freshman midfielder Jaime Balboni (Billerica, Mass.) and freshman midfielder Ali Campbell (Lakeville, Mass.) each netted the first goals of their careers.
• Balboni and sophomore attack Erin McCarthy (Old Lyme, Conn.) both contributed two goals, while Balboni racked up a game-high seven draw controls. 
• Junior goalie Maura Grady (Marblehead, Mass.) amassed 16 saves and four groundballs as MIT out-shot Endicott, 42-18.
• Endicott is 5-5 all-time against MIT and 3-4 on the road dating back to the 2001 season.
• The Engineer's win snapped a four-game win streak in head-to-head matchups for the Gulls as the most recent meeting before tonight was a 15-12 victory for the Gulls in Cambridge, Mass. on March 7, 2009.

FOR THE FOES

• Senior midfielder Isabella DiDio (Jenkintown, Pa.) led all student-athletes with six goals and collected a team-high six draw controls for the Engineers.
• Sophomore midfielder Katie Notarangelo (Foxboro, Mass.) posted four goals and added three groundballs.
• Senior midfielder Kira Schott (New Canaan, Conn.) added a hat trick to go with one assist and a game-high five groundballs.
• Sophomore goalie Eva Boal (Princeton Junction, N.J.) made five saves.

NOTES

• Endicott is 3-2 in season openers in the last five years, having lost two consecutive.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (0-1) returns to action on Saturday, March 5 at 1:00 p.m. as the Gulls host Wheaton College in the team's home debut at Hempstead Stadium. MIT (1-0) visits Keene St. College for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference tilt.
