Women's Lacrosse Upends UNE, 15-6
BIDDEFORD, Maine — The Endicott women's lacrosse team opened Conference of New England (CNE) play with a 15-6 victory over the University of New England (UNE) on Thursday afternoon at Blue Bolt Field.
The Gulls led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter and built the lead to 10-2 at halftime. In the second half, the Blue and Green continued to put distance between them and the Nor'easters, outscoring them 5-4 and securing the 15-6 road win.
Emerson Clark (Gloucester, Mass.) led the way for Endicott with four goals and added three assists for seven points.
Mia Samarjian (Stow, Mass.) also finished with seven points in the contest as she scored three goals and had four assists.
Leah Black (Cheshire, Conn.) and Mia Smith (Portsmouth, N.H.) both had the same statline of five points (three goals and two assists), while Kendal Kelsey (Queensbury, N.Y.) and Grace McAfee (Upper Township, N.J.) rounded out the goal scorers with solo tallies.
Defensively, the Gulls forced eight UNE turnovers with Olivia Francis (Simsbury, Conn.) leading the way with two and Caroline Rocco (North Grafton, Mass.) scooped up a team-high five ground balls.
In goal, Faith Minickene (Madison, Conn.) made her first start of the season and made six saves to pickup her first career win.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott is now 25-6 all-time against the Nor'easters.
- Third 4-0 start in program history (2020 and 2005).
- Samarjian set a new career high for points in a game.
- Abbie Belleville (Salem, Conn.) and Annabelle Gray (Londonderry, Vt.) both went over 100 career draw controls.
- Clark became the latest member of the 100 career points list in the victory.
- First goal of the season for McAfee.
WHAT'S NEXT
Endicott (4-0, 1-0 CNE) resumes non-conference play when it hosts No. 2 Wesleyan (Conn.) on Tuesday, March 17, at 3 PM. UNE (1-4, 0-1 CNE) heads to Florida where they will take on NAIA opponent Ave Maria.
