Women’s Rugby Goes 2-2 At AIC Invitational, Gulls Earn Plate Division Runner-Up Trophy

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Endicott club women's rugby team went 2-2 overall at the American International College (AIC) 7's Invitational to earn Plate Division runner-up honors on Sunday. Endicott fell to Army in its opening match by a 47-7 score, but bounced back with wins against Norwich (B), 29-5, and Army (B), 32-5, before falling to Boston University, 24-10, in the runner-up match. 

MATCH TWO: Endicott 29, Norwich (B) 5 

The Gulls came out ready to go against Norwich (B) and it showed in the score column as Endicott received two tries from Reagan Cerci (Easton, Mass.) and two conversions from Nicole McCardle (Castleton, Vt.). McCardle also notched one try, while Cassandra Dablain (Harwinton, Conn.) and Samantha Hontas (Lee, Mass.) also punched home tries. 

MATCH THREE: Endicott 32, Army (B) 5 

After receiving a bye into their third match as top seed, Endicott dominated Army (B) behind two tries from Hontas and a pair of conversions via McCardle. The Gulls also four more tries highlighted by Cerci, Shelby Stevenson (South Dennis, Mass.), and Lauren Hervieux (Lincoln, R.I.). 

MATCH FOUR: Boston University 24, Endicott 10 

"It was a great game but we just couldn't finish," said Endicott club women's rugby head coach Emily Record. "Tries in the match came from Hervieux and Lauren Matthies (Quincy, Mass.). Overall, we finished sixth with a runner-up spot in the plate division, while Shelby Stevenson highlighted us individually by being named to the All-Tournament team.
