Pepin's hat trick lifts Endicott past Curry
Oct. 11, 2008
BEVERLY, Mass. - Freshman forward Colleen Pepin (Fairhaven, Mass.) scored her first collegiate hat trick as the Gulls fired their way past Curry College, 3-1, in an important The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer matchup on Saturday afternoon in Beverly, Mass. The win moves Endicott to 9-2-2 (8-0-1 TCCC) while the Colonels fall to 7-4-1 and 3-3-0 in TCCC play.
Endicott opened the game with a quick strike just 8:11 into the first half as junior Allyson Bellemore (Manchester, N.H.) sent a crossing feed from the left side into the box, allowing Pepin to bury a shot into the upper left-hand corner for the 1-0 lead.
Curry came charging right back as the Colonels tied the game at 1-all just 47 seconds later. Junior Ashley Hansbury (Chelmsford, Mass.) left a pretty drop pass to classmate Amanda Howland (Hanson, Mass.) after being challenged by an Endicott defender near the top of the box. Howland made good on the open look as she lofted a shot over the head of goalkeeper Nicole Lawlor (Mansfield, Mass.) to knot the game at 1-1.
Pepin regained the lead for the hosts in the 19th minute as Caitlin Flynn (Southold, N.Y.) found the freshman with a nifty pass off the right goal line, allowing Pepin to redirect the ball into an open Curry net. The Gulls would carry the 2-1 lead into the intermission.
Colleen Pepin sealed the win at 59:34 as she came streaking down the middle of the field in a 1-on-1 situation with a Curry defender. Pepin beat the Colonel towards the short side, and then fired a shot across her body past an outstretched Nicole Hayward (Marshfield, Mass.) for the 3-1 advantage.
Endicott outshot Curry, 21-11, in the winning effort. The Gulls' Nicole Lawlor made eight saves in her second win of the season. Her counterpart, Nicole Hayward, also finished the night with eight stops.
Endicott, now unbeaten in its last 10 contests, travels to Dudley, Mass. on Wednesday for a TCCC showdown with Nichols College. Curry returns to action on the same day with a road game against Regis.
