Box Score
NEWPORT, R.I. – Endicott sophomore Nicole Fournier (Milford, Mass.) scored twice, but it was not enough for the Gulls as they lost to Salve Regina 3-2 on the road.
The Gulls dropped to 6-4 (3-1 CCC) on the season while the Seahawks remained undefeated in conference play at 4-0 and 8-2 overall.
Salve Regina struck first in the 16th minute on a goal by senior Liz Galla (Beacon Falls, Conn.) with an assist to junior Kaitlyn Birrell (Hope, R.I.). Birrell scored an unassisted goal of her own five minutes later to extend the Salve Regina lead to 2-0.
In the second half, Fournier wasted no time in mounting the Gulls comeback attempt as the sophomore scored just 1:12 into the second period.
Salve Regina responded when senior Maggie Kane (Bangor, Maine) used a penalty kick attempt to deliver what would be the game-winner. It was her third penalty kick conversion of the week.
Fournier added her second goal of the game and her fourth of the season in the 68th minute to help claw Endicott back into the match, but the Gulls were unable to score the equalizer.
The Gulls double Salve Regina's shot total in the game, attempt 22 shots compared to just 11 for the Seahawks.
Both teams return to non-conference action Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., with the Gulls hosting Tufts, and the Seahawks welcoming UMass Boston.
