SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) has named Endicott senior defender Caitlin Peters (Salem, N.H.) as the Defensive Player of the Week in the first awards of the 2012 season. Peters and the Gulls have jumped out to a 3-1 record this year as they set their sights on another trip to the CCC championship.
Peters has been a rock at her central defensive position, leading a Gulls team that has posted two shutouts and has outscored their opponents by a 14-2 margin.
In this weekend's trip to the Union kickoff tournament, Peters was a solid presence at the back in a tough 1-0 loss to the hosts and then was part of a defensive squad that held Husson to just one shot on goal in a 4-0 victory for the Gulls.
Peters, the reigning CCC Defensive Player of the Year, is a composed and consistent defender who communicates well and keeps her other defenders well organized.
The Gulls, currently with a 3-1 record, will host Plymouth State on Wednesday at 4:00 pm before preparing for their first conference action, Saturday's home tilt with Roger Williams. That game, a rematch of the previous two CCC championship contests, will begin at 12:30 PM at Endicott Stadium
