CNE CHAMPIONSHIP: Women's Soccer Comes Up Short Against Hartford, 2-0
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The second-seeded Endicott women's soccer team fell to the top-seeded Hartford Hawks, 2-0, in Saturday afternoon's Conference of New England (CNE) Championship matchup at Al-Marzook Field.
The Hawks jumped on top in just the eighth minute after dispossessing the Gulls' backfield and rolling in a ball past a diving Samantha MacCormack (Danvers, Mass.).
Then, with 5:26 remaining in the first half, the Hawks drew a foul in the box and were awarded a penalty kick opportunity. They converted the penalty look to grab a two-goal lead heading into halftime.
Early in the second half, the Gulls mustered up their best opportunity of the afternoon, as Olivia Pardo (Latham, N.Y.) set up a great rip on net that nearly went bar-down and in, but the Hartford keeper cleared it off the line to keep the Gulls scoreless.
The Gulls continued to apply pressure up top throughout the second half, but were ultimately unable to break through the Hawks' defense before the buzzer sounded.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The two programs have combined to win each of the last three conference championships (Endicott won in 2023, Hartford won in 2024 and 2025).
- Earlier this season, the Hawks pulled out a 1-0 win at Hempstead Stadium, despite the Gulls outshooting them 16-4 in the matchup.
- The Gulls outshot the Hawks 12-9 in the contest (6-3 on net).
- Madeline Barbieri (Cranston, R.I.) battled head-to-head with Hartford's Kathleen Brush (Wethersfield, Conn.) throughout the contest. The two combined for eight fouls going head-to-head (five on Barbieri, three on Brush).
- Brush earned CNE Tournament "Most Outstanding Player" honors after she scored the championship game-winner.
