Gulls improve to 3-1 in TCCC with win over WIT

Boston, Mass. – The Endicott women’s tennis team nearly completed a full sweep against The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) opponent Wentworth Institute of Technology, defeating the Leopards 8-1. The Blue and Green return to .500 with a 3-3 (3-1 TCCC) mark this season.

WIT dropped to 1-4 (1-3 TCCC) following the loss.
Starting off in doubles play, the combination of juniors \#Kate Cioffi\# (Essex, Vt.) and \#Laura MacLeod\# (Mashpee, Mass.) won their number one doubles match 8-1 to set the tone for the afternoon. Fellow juniors \#Emily Annis\# (Hampton, N.H.) and \#Kerri Dunn\# (Middleton, Mass.) handed their opponents an 8-4 loss in number two doubles. In the final number three doubles match, sophomore \#Gina Pinciaro\# (Beverly, Mass.) and junior \#Kristen DiFillippo\# (Lynnfield, Mass.) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win.
In singles play, Endicott’s one, two and three singles players all earned straight set victories. Cioffi handled WIT’s number one singles player with a 6-1, 6-4 match victory, Annis followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win at number two singles, and MacLeod went 6-1, 6-4 in number three singles.
Number five singles player, freshman \#Melanie Weinick\# (Colchester, Conn.) remained undefeated by winning 6-1, 6-1 and Pinciaro took down her number six singles opponent 6-0, 6-2.
The Gulls will travel to Quincy for a TCCC match up against Eastern Nazarene College on Saturday, September 18 starting at 1:00 pm.
