Women's Tennis Advances to 2nd Round of NCAA DIII Tournament with 5-0 Win Over Farmingdale State

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.- For the second straight season, the Endicott women's tennis team drew Farmingdale State as their opponent in the NCAA DIII Women's Tennis Tournament First Round, and for the second year in a row, Endicott emerged victorious, this time via a 5-0 decision. With the win, Endicott now advances to play host Williams tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. The Gulls improve their 2014-15 season record to 14-4 with the victory while the Rams of Farmingdale State end their season at 14-2.

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.- For the second straight season, the Endicott women's tennis team drew Farmingdale State as their opponent in the NCAA DIII Women's Tennis Tournament First Round, and for the second year in a row, Endicott emerged victorious, this time via a 5-0 decision. With the win, Endicott now advances to play host #1 Williams tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. The Gulls improve their 2014-15 season record to 14-4 with the victory while the Rams of Farmingdale State end their season at 14-2.

Endicott was staked to a 3-0 lead following doubles play as the Gulls swept through the three doubles contests. Endicott's #3 doubles team of Brittany Potter (Bedford, N.H.) and Jamie Zompa (Marlborough, Mass.) got the scoring underway for the Gulls as they claimed their match 8-0 over Amanda Vecchio (Shirley, N.Y.) and Denise Liguori (Massapequa, N.Y.). With the win, Potter and Zompa improved their doubles record as a team to 3-1. Endicott would extend the lead to 2-0 as the #2 doubles team of Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) and Maxine Bergstein (Hingham, Mass.) claimed an 8-4 victory over Michelle Fredericks (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and Tatiana Rosamilia (Malverne, N.Y.) to improve their season record to 11-4 together. The #1 doubles match would be the closest of the three as Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) and Natalie Egbert (Gorham, Maine) would recover from a 3-2 deficit to take an 8-6 win over Priscilla Signore (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Alex Bentz (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) to give Endicott the 3-0 lead. For Heacox and Egbert, the duo evened their 2014-15 record at #1 singles to 2-2 with the win.

With just two wins required in singles play, the Gulls would see Egbert defeat Bentz 6-1, 6-0 at #2 singles and Zompa defeat Liguori 6-1, 6-1 at #5 singles to clinch the 5-0 victory. With the 5-0 win locked up, four singles matches remained unfinished. Endicott's Heacox was leading 6-4, 3-1 in her match against Signore at #1 singles, Rhodes was leading Farmingdale's Fredericks 6-2, 4-0 at #3 singles and Bergstein was up 6-3, 3-0 in the second set at #6 singles. Potter was locked up in a tight match against Rosamilia with the score reading 6-3, 3-0 in favor of the Rams at the conclusion of play.

Endicott has now advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA DIII Women's Tennis tournament for three consecutive seasons under third year head coach Jeremy Howard who has led the team to a 48-12 record over that span. The women, now 14-4 on the 2014-15 season, advance to take on #1 Williams who enters with a 20-0 record on the year. Match time has been set for a 10:30 a.m. start time.
