Norley Invited to NEWVA Senior Classic
BEVERLY, Mass. - The New England Women’s Volleyball Association announced today New England’s top 35 Division III senior volleyball players invited to compete in the 2012 NEWVA Senior Classic, Sunday, Dec. 2, at Babson College, and Endicott's Ashley Norley (Sudbury, Mass.) was honored to be chosen. The annual event features the area’s top seniors competing in various skills competitions leading up to the afternoon’s all-star match.
BEVERLY, Mass. - The New England Women's Volleyball Association announced today New England's top 35 Division III senior volleyball players invited to compete in the 2012 NEWVA Senior Classic, Sunday, Dec. 2, at Babson College, and Endicott's Ashley Norley (Sudbury, Mass.) was honored to be chosen. The annual event features the area's top seniors competing in various skills competitions leading up to the afternoon's all-star match.
Ashley Norley (Sudbury, Mass.) was chosen after her record setting 2012 season for the Blue and Green. Norley shattered multiple program single season defensive records as she vaulted into second place on the all-time career digs list. Her season total of 648 digs surpassed the previous record of 633 which was set in 2007 by Brittany Nolan. Norley also set records for digs in a match and twice set the record for digs in a four set match. Against Bowdoin on September 8th, Norley set the record for digs in a four set match by recording 33. She then went on to shatter that mark by eight as she racked up 41 digs in a four set loss to Salve Regina in the CCC Semifinals. The 41 digs were also a record for most in a match of any length besting the previous mark of 37 set by Nolan against Emmanuel in 2005.
Norley ends her successful career for the Gulls at #2 all-time in the record books for career digs. Norley's tally of 2,287 is second to only Brittany Nolan's record of 2,316. Norley was also named as the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Libero of the Year and First Team All-CCC for the 2012 season.
The full list of honorees represents 24 different institutions from NCAA Division III volleyball programs across New England and nine different conferences.
