Women's Volleyball Splits Matches on Senior Day

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday during a day in which they honored seniors Carley Gagnon (Goffstown, N.H.), Amanda Gilbert (Hopkinton, Mass.), Colleen McAvoy (Coventry, Conn.) and Haley Rosenblatt (Miller Place, N.Y.) in a pre-match ceremony for Senior Day. The Gulls started by sweeping Curry 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-13), before falling to Coast Guard in non-conference action 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-19), to move to 16-8 overall on the season.

In first match of the day against Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent Curry, the Gulls were led by the seniors across the board. Rosenblatt posted a season-high 11 assists to go with three digs and an ace as she helped guide the Gulls to a .291 average (34-11-79) in the match. Gilbert record eight kills at a .300 clip (8-2-20) to go with a team-high seven digs while McAvoy and Gagnon finished with five and four kills, respectively. 

In the second match of the day, the Gulls saw freshman Riley Donahue (South Windsor, Conn.) step up to produce a 14 kill, 12 dig, two ace performance to finish with 16.5 points as she led the team with points and kills. Nicole Winkler (Southborough, Mass.) finished with a match-best .500 average after recording five kills with one error on eight attempts, while fellow middle Colleen McAvoy finished with seven kills and a .312 average.

Amelia Beigel (Amherst, Mass.) led the team with 18 assists and three aces while also picking up 13 digs, good for second on the team. Lauren McGrath (Franklin, Mass.) was right behind, posting 16 assists in the setback, while Emma Ruel (Duxbury, Mass.) finished with 18 digs, good the for match-high.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

• The four seniors and three graduate students Winkler, Frederick and Mary Campbell (Marion, Mass.) competed in their last regular season home match of their careers.
• Against Curry, Winkler and Frederick hit .364 (6-2-11 and 5-1-11, respectively), while Campbell finished with a kill three digs.
• Endicott is now 11-0 all-time against Curry.
• The Gulls are now 7-0 in CCC play with two matches remaining.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (16-8, 7-0 CCC) is now off until Wednesday when the Gulls travel to Wentworth for a CCC tilt at 7:00 PM. Curry will travel to Suffolk that night as well for a CCC match while Coast Guard plays host to WPI in NEWMAC action on Tuesday night.
