CNE FIRST ROUND: Gulls Quell Nor’easters, 3-1
BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's volleyball team defeated UNE, 3-1, by scores of 25-11, 25-17, 20-25, and 25-16 in Conference of New England (CNE) Tournament First Round action on Tuesday night at MacDonald Gymnasium.
Hadley Helenbrook (Atlanta, Ga.) powered the Gulls with a match-high 21 kills (.300), three service aces, and nine digs.
Meanwhile, Ava Grace Dresback (Pawcatuck, Conn.) and Hannah Maguire (San Jose, Calif.) both posted double-doubles in the playoff victory.
Dresback tallied 18 kills and 10 digs for her 10th double-double of the season. Maguire filled the stat sheet with a match-high 48 assists (.414) and 11 digs.
Abby Downs (Billerica, Mass.) also produced a match-high 26 digs from the back row.
Tonight's match featured 11 ties (5-5-0-1) and four lead changes (2-2-0-0).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott is 34-3 all-time against the Nor'easters (17 straight wins, 18-1 overall at home).
- The Gulls will make their 25th consecutive conference semifinal appearance later this week.
- Downs has recorded 20 or more digs in six matches this season.
- Helenbrook has compiled 20 or more kills in nine matches this fall.
- The junior outside hitter also went a perfect 31-for-31 on serve-receive (66-for-66 as a team, Downs 18-18, Dresback 17-17).
- Endicott improved to 8-4 at home this season.
- Talia Camacho (Franklin Square, N.Y.) led the squad with four block assists.
WHAT'S NEXT
Third-seeded Endicott (16-11) visits second-seeded Roger Williams on Thursday, November 13. First serve for Thursday's CNE Semifinals matchup is scheduled for 6 PM.
Sixth-seeded UNE concludes its season with a 12-13 record.
