Women's Team Captures Title at the UNE Invitational
Sept. 13, 2004
Biddeford, ME- In a cross-country meet, success depends on a solid top 5 finish. This was evident as the Women's Cross-Country Team edged UNE by a mere 3 points (31-34) to capture the team title at the University of New England Invitational held at Rotary Park Saturday. The key for the Gulls was placing 4 runners in the top 10.
Freshman Julianna Osburn (Danvers, MA/Danvers) paced the women harriers with a second place overall finish. Not far behind was fellow freshman sensation Morgan Kerr (Manchester, MA/Manchester-Essex Regional). Kerr, who never ran competitively in high school, placed 4th overall. Captain Erica Spencer (Sterling, MA/Wachusett Regional) followed just 9 seconds later with a 6th place overall finish. Osburn, Kerr, and Spencer received individual honors for finishing in the top 7.
Sophomore Katie Fitch (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) cracked the top 10 with a 10th place finish. Sophomore Kathleen Lascelles (York, ME/York)rounded out the scoring for the Gulls placing 12th overall. The meet could have easily gone the other way as the total team time for Endicott was only 27 seconds ahead of UNE's.
Next on the agenda is the U-Mass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday September 18th. The race starts at 12 noon.
