Men’s Volleyball Reverse Sweeps Emmanuel In Season Opener, 3-2
BOSTON, Mass. — The Endicott men's volleyball team rallied past Emmanuel, 3-2, by set scores of 20-25, 23-25, 25-15, 25-18, and 15-12 on Friday night at the Jean Yawkey Center.
Aidan Iacovelli (South Windsor, Conn.), Aaron Bennett (Haverhill, Mass.), and Ethan Norris (Hollis, N.H.) all registered double-digit kills in the victory.
The trio posted totals of 16 (.289), 13 (.478), and 10 (.318) kills, respectively.
The Gulls also saw middles Thomas Matchett (North Smithfield, R.I.) and Jackson Gray (Glenmont, N.Y.) contribute nine putaways apiece (.389 | .692).
Matty Tiernan (Bradford, R.I.) facilitated the offense (60 kills, .369) via a match-high 49 assists. Dan Battista (Bethlehem, N.Y.) highlighted the defense with a match-high 12 digs.
Tonight's match featured 35 ties (11-6-5-7-6) and 15 lead changes (7-2-3-1-2).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott improved to 22-9 against Emmanuel.
- The Gulls compiled 12 total blocks (3 solo, 18 assisted), the most in a season-opening match since January 15, 2011, against Lasell (4 solo, 17 assisted, 12.5 total).
- Endicott's 18 block assists are also the most for the program in a season-opening match since January 26, 2013, versus Baruch (18 block assists).
- Matchett paced the squad with four blocks (1 solo, 6 assisted).
WHAT'S NEXT
Endicott (1-0) takes on No. 11 Wentworth and No. 13 New Paltz on Saturday, January 31. The Gulls will play the host Leopards at 11 AM, before completing the tri-match against the Hawks at 1:30 PM.
Emmanuel (1-5) welcomes Bard (11 AM) and Elms (3 PM) to the Jean Yawkey Center tomorrow.
