CCC TOURNAMENT: No. 4 Endicott To Battle No. 7 Curry On Thursday In Must-Win Tourney Game

BEVERLY, Mass. — The fourth-seeded Endicott softball team will travel down to Newport, R.I. again on Thursday, May 4th where the Gulls will take on No. 7 Curry at 1:00 p.m. to fight to stay alive in Game 8 of the Commonwealth Coast Conference's (CCC) Double-Elimination Tournament.

Should the Gulls win, Game 9 will then take place at 3:00 p.m. against the winner of No. 8 Gordon / No. 3 Roger Williams with the winner advancing to Championship Saturday on May 6th needing three more wins to claim the conference crown. Any loss along the way will end Endicott's season.

THE MATCHUP: The Gulls (21-15, 11-7 CCC) defeated the Curry College Colonels in the regular-season series, 8-0 (6 inn.) and 5-3, on April 14th in Beverly, Mass.

POSTSEASON HISTORY: The Gulls have qualified for the conference tournament every season in the 24th years since Endicott became NCAA Division III varsity program in 1993-94. Endicott is in the hunt for its 11th CCC title and 15th banner overall (13 conference titles, one ECAC championship) under 23-year head coach Mark Veilleux in his final season at the helm. The Gulls won nine straight conference crowns from 2003-2011 and added a 10th in 2014 when this year's senior class were freshmen.

NO. 4 ENDICOTT(21-15, 11-7 CCC) | STATISTICS | SCHEDULE | ROSTER

The Gulls posted a 20-win season for the 18th time in program history. To highlight the season, Coach Veilleux earned his 600th career victory over Amherst College with a 6-5 walk-off victory on Sunday, March 12th in Leesburg, Fla. during the annual Spring Break trip. Additionally, the Gulls have celebrated five walk-off victories this season. Fourth-seeded Endicott opened the CCC Tournament with an 8-3 victory over No. 8 Gordon on Saturday, April 29th, followed by a 1-0 defeat to top-seeded Salve Regina in the nightcap to land in the loser's bracket. Endicott is led by All-CCC First Team sophomore outfielder Olivia Odermatt (Cheshire, Conn.), three All-CCC Second Teamers in freshman pitcher Michaela Hamill (Lynn, Mass.), junior catcher Emily Sharpe (South Glens Falls, N.Y.), and senior outfielder Julia McNeill (Smithtown, N.Y.). Rounding out the list of honorees, sophomore outfielder Hayley Arduini (Southington, Conn.) was named to the All-CCC Third Team.

NO. 7 CURRY (16-22, 7-11 CCC) | STATISTICS | SCHEDULE | ROSTER

The Colonels defeated sixth-seeded Nichols College, 2-0, in eight innings on Friday, April 28th in the CCC play-in game to advance to the next round. Curry then dropped a 10-1 decision (five innings) to No. 3 seed Roger Williams in Game 4 of the CCC Tournament hosted by Western New England on Saturday, April 29th. Curry placed three student-athletes on the All-Conference team this season as junior Kevi Oatway(East Hartford, Conn.) was named to the Second Team, while Mikayla Korona(Bellingham, Mass.) and Mikayla Lambert(Blackstone, Mass.) landed on the Third Team. The Colonels are coached by 22-year head coach Bruce Weckworth.

WHAT'S AT STAKE: The CCC Tournament Champion will receive the conference's automatic qualifier into the NCAA DIII Softball Championship.
