Grady Stopped A Season-High 17 Shots In Gulls' 14-5 Loss To No. 18 Bowdoin

BEVERLY, Mass. ­– The Endicott women's lacrosse team fell, 14-5, to the visiting No. 18 nationally-ranked Bowdoin College Polar Bears Wednesday evening at Hempstead Stadium in non-conference action as junior goalie Maura Grady (Marblehead, Mass.) made a season-high 17 saves in the defeat.

The Polar Bears racked up seven goals in the first half and had six in a row to open the game before Endicott got on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal by junior midfielder Emily Whitney (Rye, N.H.) with 6:22 remaining in the first half.

Trailing 7-1 at the break and 8-1 as the second half got underway, the Gulls' offense found some rhythm with back-to-back scores from freshman midfielder Jaime Balboni (Billerica, Mass.) and sophomore attack Erin McCarthy (Old Lyme, Conn.) to cut the deficit to 8-3 at the 20:24 mark of the second half.

The Polar Bears then scored four straight, highlighted by senior midfielder Emma Beecher's (Morristown, N.J.) game-high fourth tally of the night (unassisted) at the 19:34 mark.

Whitney and sophomore midfielder Olivia Larson (Cheshire, Conn.) celebrated consecutive scores to bring Endicott to within a 12-5 margin with 9:36 remaining in the game.

Bowdoin tacked on seven goals in total in the second half as the visitors cruised to their second consecutive victory.

• Grady stopped a game-high/season-high 17 shots as she fell to 1-6 on the season. 17 saves is one shy of her career-high that she recorded last season against Bowdoin on April 4, 2015.
• Freshman midfielder Ali Campbell (Lakeville, Mass.) scooped up a game-high four ground balls.
• Sophomore midfielder Olivia Larson (Cheshire, Conn.) won a team-high three draw controls and added one goal.
• Whitney tallied a team-high two goals as she paces the team with 14 goals on the season.
• Freshman midfielder Jaime Balboni (Billerica, Mass.) and sophomore attack Erin McCarthy (Old Lyme, Conn.) each registered one goal tonight.
• Balboni is the leading scorer of the freshman class with seven goals, which is tied for third-best on the team overall this season, while McCarthy is second on the team with 11 goals.

• The Polar Bears are ranked No. 18 in the latest Division III IWLCA Poll released on March 23.
• Beecher recorded a game-high four goals, added two assists, and had a game-high three caused turnovers.
• Senior midfielder Lindsay Picard (New York, N.Y.) registered a game-high three assists.
• Senior attack Megan O'Connor (Concord, Mass.) chipped in three goals.
• Junior midfielder Annie Glenn (Salt Lake City, Utah) and Picard tied for a game-high with four draw controls won apiece.
• Sophomore goalie Kayli Weiss (Longmont, Conn.) made one save in the first half as she split time in goal on her way to earning her third win of the season (3-3).
• Freshman goalkeeper Erin Morrissey (Arlington, Va.) split time in goal and made four saves in the second half.

• The Gulls are 0-8 all-time and  0-4 at home vs. Bowdoin dating back to the 2009 season.
• The Polar Bears won, 13-8, in the most recent meeting before tonight on April 4, 2015 in Brunswick, Maine.
