NORTON, Mass. — The Endicott men's volleyball team defeated No. 16 MIT (3-1) and host Wheaton (3-0) in a tri-match on Sunday evening at Emerson Gymnasium.
ENDICOTT 3, NO. 16 MIT 1 (27-25, 25-20, 20-25, 25-22)
Aidan Iacovelli (South Windsor, Conn.) powered the Gulls with a match-high 15 kills and eight digs.
Jake Laborde (Brookline, N.H.) also filled the stat sheet with 12 kills, nine digs, four block assists, and a perfect 27-for-27 showing on serve-receive.
Ethan Norris (Hollis, N.H.) notched nine kills, 11 assists, five digs, and four block assists, while Matty Tiernan (Bradford, R.I.) contributed 26 assists and nine digs to the victory.
Defensively, Dan Battista (Bethlehem, N.Y.) paced the squad with 18 digs.
Match one on the day for the Gulls featured 36 ties (12-9-8-7) and 10 lead changes (2-4-2-2).
ENDICOTT 3, WHEATON 0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-14)
Norris highlighted the Gulls in match two with nine kills (.667) and seven digs, both team-highs.
Iacovelli, Laborde, and Aaron Bennett (Haverhill, Mass.) also registered eight kills apiece to complete the sweep.
As a team, Endicott hit .380 in the match with Tiernan (22 assists) and Norris (13 assists) running the offense.
The second set is where the Gulls were at their best, as the attack produced a .583 hitting percentage in the middle stanza (16K-2E-24TA).
Match two of the day only featured 23 ties (12-11-0) and seven lead changes (5-2-0).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORES
- The Gulls defeated MIT (8-2 overall this season) for the first time since 2022 (17-22 in all-time series).
- It also marks the fifth time Endicott has defeated the Engineers when they have been nationally ranked (No. 6, No. 12, No. 13 twice, No. 16).
- First-ever meeting against Wheaton (2-5 overall this season).
- Tiernan dished out his 1,000th career assist.
