ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Endicott men's volleyball team defeated host Nazareth (3-1) and No. 17 Thiel (3-1) on Saturday evening at Kidera Gymnasium.
ENDICOTT 3, NAZARETH 1 (20-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-20)
Jake Laborde (Brookline, N.H.) paced the Gulls with 12 kills, six digs, and two block assists.
Jackson Gray (Glenmont, N.Y.) and Aidan Iacovelli (South Windsor, Conn.) also combined for 19 kills (11/8) in the victory.
Meanwhile, Ethan Norris (Hollis, N.H.) filled the stat sheet with seven kills (.300), 15 assists, six digs, and five block assists.
Matty Tiernan (Bradford, R.I.) ran the majority of the attack with 23 assists, and Dan Battista (Bethlehem, N.Y.) guided the defense with a team-high 10 digs.
The match featured 20 ties (5-4-8-3) and 10 lead changes (1-4-5-0).
ENDICOTT 3, NO. 17 THIEL 1 (23-25, 25-20, 27-25, 25-16)
Laborde fueled the offense once again, this time hammering home a match-high/season-high 19 kills alongside 10 digs.
Iacovelli chipped in with 12 kills (.364) and eight digs, while Aaron Bennett (Haverhill, Mass.) posted nine kills (.304) and five block assists to complete the tri-match sweep.
Thomas Matchett (North Smithfield, R.I.) was also a force in the middle for the Gulls, as the sophomore had four kills and seven blocks (one solo).
Norris and Tiernan combined for 43 assists (26, .510 | 17, .321) running the offense, while Battista logged a career-high 21 digs.
The second match of the day featured 19 ties (5-4-7-3) and nine lead changes (2-2-3-2).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORES
- Endicott is receiving votes (6) in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Poll.
- The Gulls are 2-0 all-time versus Nazareth (W, 3-0 | 2/16/19).
- First-ever meeting against Thiel.
- Battista's 21 digs in a four-set match fell one shy of ranking tied tenth all-time.
