New Team in Town; Kitties win 2011 title
Dream Team, the 2010 Arena Football Champions, came into the 2011 season with a champion-like swagger. With several returning stars, Dream Team looked primed for another championship. The Kitties spoiled their plans by upsetting the defending champs.
The first half was a low scoring, defensive battle as each team concentrated on ball control and clock management. With the score tied at 14-14 entering the second half, the game was up for grabs. With the game lacking of big plays, Molly Cahill stepped up and made a crucial play by intercepting a pass and bringing the ball all the way to the goal-line, setting up a score for the Kitties. After the play, Dream Team was unable to answer the Kitties’ score, opening up an opportunity for the underdogs to distance themselves from the defending champs. Catie Cullen took the opportunity and capitalized with a long touchdown which put her team up by two scores. Earning Championship MVP honors, Cullen scored three touchdowns and also intercepted a pass to put her team ahead for good. As the final seconds ticked off the clock, the crowd was silent as the Kitties had knocked off the defending champs and had catapulted themselves to the top of the Arena Football world.
With several returning players and a plethora of prospect, the Kitties appear to be a dynasty in the making. The league better take notice that the Kitties are the champs and are looking like force to be reckoned with.
