Endicott men’s hoops team set to travel northbound for Canadian competition

BEVERLY, Mass. – Tomorrow afternoon, the Endicott men's basketball team will depart from Beverly, head north and over the border in the Quebec province of Canada where they will compete in exhibition games against Laurentian University, Queen's University, and Champlain-Lennoxville College from October 5^th-7^th at the Nike Tournament hosted by Concordia University. 

Endicott is taking full advantage of the NCAA's policy on allowing teams to participate in additional exhibition games in a location of their choosing in the offseason and finally after months of fundraising that included clinics, summer leagues, and raffles, the Gulls are ready to hit the road. 

The Gulls don't officially start their preseason practice schedule on Monday, October 15^th, but these exhibition games should put the Blue and Green ahead of the game. 

"We are allowed 10 days of practice before this trip," said Endicott's fourth year head coach Phil Rowe.  "My assistants have done all the coaching and I've just been observing from afar.  They are going to hear my voice plenty after October 15^th so I want them to really enjoy this experience.  The program has never gone on a trip like this before."

The team will certainly spent a lot of their time across the board on the hard court, matched up against teams like Laurentian and Queen's who have battled NCAA DI Northeastern University to close results.  Queen's lost by 20 to the Huskies while Laurentian went down to the wire with a two-point defeat.  Endicott's Sunday opponent, Champlain-Lennoxville, is expected to be a more of an evenly matched game.   Endicott will also get an insight look at international play, with similar rules as the Summer Olympics like a wider and diagonal foul lane and allowed contact with the ball over the rim, but the Gulls are focused on getting their players as much on-the-court experience as possible.   

"We are going to face some stiff competition, but this is a great opportunity to see different rotations on the court.  We aren't just going to roll out who we expect to be our starting five but we'll mix younger players in with the veterans just as we have in our practices.  This is a great opportunity to get our guys experience playing with each other before we get to the regular season."
