Endicott 75, Lesley 62; Greene and Henault lead Gulls to non-conference win
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Endicott men’s basketball team closed out the 2012 portion of their schedule with a 75-62 victory over NECC opponent Lesley on Saturday afternoon behind standout efforts by guards John Henault (Lunenburg, Mass.) and Lance Greene (Dorchester, Mass.) who both shot well from three-point range.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Endicott men's basketball team closed out the 2012 portion of their schedule with a 75-62 victory over NECC opponent Lesley on Saturday afternoon behind standout efforts by guards John Henault (Lunenburg, Mass.) and Lance Greene (Dorchester, Mass.) who both shot well from three-point range.
Henault led all scorers with 18 points as the sophomore hit 4-of-6 three-point attempts and filled up the stat sheet with five assists, three rebounds, two steals, and a block. Greene added 17 points, including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc, with six assists, four rebounds, and a steal. Greene moved past Josh Oxton '05 into seventh place in the all-time scoring list after his performance against the Lynx.
Endicott (6-2) returns to action on Wednesday, January 2nd with a road match up with North Shore rival Salem State. Tip-off is at 7:30 pm. The Blue and Green are 1-3 all-time versus Salem State with their most recent match up resulting in a 93-89 win over the Vikings back on January 4, 2012.
Lesley dropped to 3-7 on the season despite a 17-point effort from sophomore guard Justin Rosa (East Brunswick, N.J.). Valentine Emebo (Boca Raton, Fla.) added 11 points and senior Matt Gibson (Quincy, Mass.) dished out a game-high seven assists with six rebounds in the loss.
Endicott held a 33-30 halftime advantage as both Henault and junior Lachlan Magee (Melbourne, Australia) scored eight points in the opening stanza. Off the bench, freshman guard Dan Powers (Westwood, Mass.) netted all six of his points on 3-of-4 shooting with two rebounds and an assist.
The Gulls, who shot just 35.3% in the first half, turned it on in the second half by hitting 5-of-10 three-point attempts and going 11-of-13 at the free throw line. Greene scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half on 4-of-6 from the field, including three three-pointers and four makes at the charity stripe. Henault poured in 10 more points in the second half with a 2-for-2 mark behind the three-point line. Junior guard Bennett Knowlton (Shrewsbury, Mass.) came off the bench and chipped in five points with two steals.
Endicott saw sophomore Matt Kneece (Shrewsbury, Mass.) grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds while scoring six points on a perfect 3-of-3 from the field. Magee also grabbed nine rebounds, including three on the offensive glass. Endicott outrebounded Lesley 48-33 for the game.
