Bio

Beginning his first season with the Endicott College Men’s Soccer Team, John Shimer joins Calabrese’s staff as the first assistant where the two young coaches will partner to build towards the goal of the program’s first ever Commonwealth Coast Conference championship and beyond.

Shimer comes to Endicott having previously coached in 2012 at Ohio Wesleyan University, home to Head Men’s Soccer Coach Jay Martin, the all-time winningest coach in men’s or women’s soccer history at any level in the college game. Coming off the program’s second national championship in 2011, the Battling Bishops won the Fred Myers Adidas Invitational tournament, won the North Coast Athletic Conference regular season championship, finished second in the NCAC tournament losing in a shootout, and earned a spot in the NCAA tournament where they were eliminated in the first round.

Working primarily with field players throughout the course of the season on attacking patterns of play, transition and shape, the Bishops finished second in the conference in goals scored and gave up the second fewest total goals during the 2012 season.

Prior to his experience at Ohio Wesleyan, Shimer coached the U14 Girls Phantoms team for Seacoast United Soccer Club in Epping, NH. There Shimer led his team to the Nate Hardy Memorial Day Tournament championship, and third place finishes in both the New Hampshire State Cup tournament as well as the Seacoast Maine Summer Coastal Challenge.

He also has worked at several local high schools on the North Shore of Boston including St. John’s Preparatory School in Danvers, MA, Methuen High School, Triton Regional High School, and most recently Newburyport High School.

Outside of the coaching profession, Shimer’s knowledge of the game is just as impressive as he analyzed the 2010 World Cup and was the primary columnist for the website of New England’s premier sports radio station, WEEI.

Shimer holds an Advanced National Diploma and a Goalkeeping I Diploma from the NSCAA.

Currently, the Rowley, Mass. native resides in his hometown.
