Gulls Drop Second Straight CCC Game in Rhode Island

BRISTOL, R.I. – Returning to Rhode Island after Wednesday's loss at Salve Regina, the Endicott women's basketball team were again victimized by a lack of offense in the final ten minutes of play and fell to Roger Williams 58-40 in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) game on Saturday afternoon.

The Hawks improve to 12-6 and, with an 8-3 mark in CCC play, leapfrog Endicott (11-7, 7-4 CCC) for second place in the conference standings.

The Gulls were outscored 31-14 in the second half and were held to just two field goals in a 15-6 Roger Williams run over the final nine and a half minutes of the game.

Jordan Ferland (Charlestown, N.H.) led the Gulls with 13 points off the bench on 6-11 shooting. She also led Endicott with eight rebounds and stuffed the stat sheet with four steals, two blocks and an assist.

Four of Roger Williams' five starters scored in double-figures, with junior Kaitlyn Bovee (Berlin, Conn.) leading all players with 21 points, including 3-7 from behind the three-point line and 6-7 from the free-throw line.  

The Gulls led just once in the game, a 10-8 advantage with 13 minutes left in the first half after a jump shot by junior Samantha Crough (Cohasset, Mass.), who finished the game with nine points, seven of them in the first half and eclipsed the 700-point plateau for her Endicott career.

Though the Hawks took the lead back on a three-pointer by Elizabeth Kilzi (Waverly, Pa.) and a jumper by Alexandria Lanieri (Port Jefferson, N.Y.), the Gulls kept the game close and trailed by just a point at halftime, 27-26.

Bovee had fourteen points, including two three-pointers, by the end of the first half for the hosts, who shot 6-17 (35%) from downtown in the game, while Endicott went 0-7 from three-point land on the afternoon.

Kilzi finished with 11 points in the game and Lanieri and Angelica Ariola (Prospect, Conn.) tallied ten points apiece for the hosts, who avenged a 66-57 loss at Endicott on December 1^st.

Roger Williams opened the second half with an 11-2 run, capped by a three-pointer by Bovee. Endicott got the deficit back to six points with jumpers by Ferland and Jen White (Lisbon, N.H.), who had four points and three rebounds, but Kilzi answered with a three-ponter and the Roger Williams lead would dip below ten points jus t once more in the contest, when the Gulls came within 9 points at 43-34 with 9:17 to play.

From that point, the Hawks advantage ballooned to 21 points as Endicott was held without a field goal until almost three minutes remained in the game.

Guards Jen McBrien (Medfield, Mass.) and Sarah Robinson (Norwich, Vt.) grabbed five rebounds apiece and combined for nine points for Endicott.

Renwick led the Hawks with six steals, while Ariola dished out a team-high three assists.

The Gulls will return home on Tuesday night to host the Leopards of Wentworth Institute of Technology. Tip-off for that game is set for 5:30 pm.

The Hawks will stay in Bristol and welcome in Gordon College for a 6:00 pm CCC contest.
