Agrodnia's Third Period Goal Pushes No. 9 Women's Ice Hockey Past No. 3 Middlebury, 3-2
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — The No. 9 Endicott women's ice hockey team defeated No. 3 Middlebury, 3-2, in non-conference action as part of the Panther/Cardinal classic at the Chip Kenyon '85 Arena on Saturday afternoon.
With the game tied at two apiece in the third period, Abbey Agrodnia (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) gave the Gulls the lead just six and a half minutes into the third period. Following two saves by the Middlebury goalie, the puck found the senior who blasted home first goal of the season and first career game-winning goal.
Following the go-ahead goal, goalie Lauren Ferrari (Bridgewater, N.J.) made 10 saves over the final 13:30 while the Gulls also blocked seven shots to keep the Panthers off the scoreboard and secure a spot in the championship game.
Mackenzie Graham (Billerica, Mass.) got the Gulls on the board first, finding the back of the net for her second goal of the season with 7:41 remaing in the first period.
Cammi Ahern (Oswgo, N.Y.) won a race to a loose puck in the corner and send a pass to the middle which deflected right to Graham's stick allowing the junior to put Endicott up.
With the lead still 1-0 in the second period, the host Panthers scored twice early in the second period to take the lead.
The Blue and Green responded though, tying the game just six seconds before the end of the second period with Lilly Corso (Winchester, Mass.) scoring goal No. 3 this season. Following a Lily Anderson (St. Paul, Minn.) pass that deflected to the corner, Julia Carrigan (Northfield, Ill.) won a battle and found Corso on the far post as she beat the Middlebury goal five-hole.
In total, Ferrari finished the contest with 28 saves as her record improves to 4-0-0 this season.
